![]() ![]() I think your problem is more with the way hyperscribe notates your keyboard technique than with layers. Lyrics can also be attached to the separate layers for example when Soprano and Alto are on the same staff with different lyrics. for the notes that move to be positioned independently, stems direction to be controlled, etc. I often use three layers on a single staff routinely for my organ arrangements. Voices suffice sometimes, but I prefer layers. I frankly cannot think of another or better way to notate music that with layers. We have discussed this point here on the forum many times. Tedious! Inefficient!Īs I said, I'm sure I'll get faster, but I would rather have a smarter program that can interpret what I'm playing. I then have to go back to point-and-click, erase the note that was given an incorrect value, switch layers, select the note of the correct value and click it into place. No matter if I'm still sustaining it on the keyboard it's cut off on the score. However, I would like to do most of my work by playing-using HyperScribe-and when I play my keyboard, as soon as one note starts, Finale cuts off the last note. I can get Finale to do what I want using layers, and tedious point-and-click "simple" entry (I'm sure I'd get faster with time). I'm glad you're satisfied, but I'm not yet! Yes, this type of scoring is found in most piano music and yes, Finale handles it satisfactorily. Normally the layers will all display together - have you perhaps got the menu item "display active layer only" set on ? Normally you work with that off, then you will be able to see all layers, but whatever you are inputting will only affect the layer which is active (set using the little buttons at the bottom left of the screen).Īnd disregard the different colors of the layers: it will print in black!įor your second statement, I don'tt have any trouble with getting Finale to sustain a long note in one layer whiles there are runs of shorter notes in another layer. It's playing the music correctly, but not displaying it in any manner useful for a pianist to read. Ok, I see how to do this with layers, but then can I see all the layers at once? This looks to me like parts for different instruments, not sheet music for piano. PrintMusic 2004, 20, Windows XP Pro, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, P4 2.6 GHz + 1 GB If it is only isolated places then it is quicker to use Speedy or Simple to put in the few extra notes (and BTW since you have a MIDI keyboard, I suggest you go through the tutorial on Speedy entry, it's much the quickest entry method used with a keyboard). To do this in hyperscribe in PM, you need to play each line separately, with a different layer selected each time. "When all is said and done, more is said than done."įavorite Forum quote: "Please, everybody, IGNORE THE TROLL!" Put the whole note in layer 1 and the quarter notes in layer 2.Īs far as hyperscribe, I can't say that PrintMusic can do layers. Can someone tell me slowly and simply how to help? I can't believe Finale, even it's PrintMusic edition, could be so limited. If I try to add the quarter note D under the G, it instead gives the whole chord a quarter note value. After I put the whole note G, I can't add any more notes of other values to the measure. When I use Simple Entry, I get no further. After I play that F (in my example), the G that I am playing as a whole note gets notated as a quarter note and then cut off. When I use HyperScribe, Finale doesn't recognize that notes could be sustained after other notes are played. I don't want to see four quarter note Gs all tied: it's messy and takes more brain cells to read on the fly I want one whole note G. I want a whole note G, with consecutive quarter notes under it D - F - E - C. A simple example: to play Csus2 - Csus4 - C. I need to have notes of different values played simultaneously-ie a sustained whole note with quarter notes moving under it, played by the same hand. I'm using Finale PrintMusic 2007 to make sheet music for piano.
